vAudioLink uses temporary credentials so a collaborator can join without receiving the host’s account credentials.

Credential types

These credentials are not interchangeable.

Treat credentials like temporary passwords

  • Send them through a private, trusted channel.
  • Never show the complete value in OBS Program, public chat, screenshots, recordings, or support tickets.
  • Copy the entire value. The Audio-, Karaoke-, Stage-, or Scene- prefix and every grouped digit are part of a friendly key; the full query string is part of a Receiver SRT URL.
  • End and recreate the room or Stage if the wrong person receives its credential. Music Collab can use Rotate guest key instead.
  • End the session when collaboration finishes.

Why a credential stops working

A guest key, Stage code, or receiver URL can fail because:
  • It expired.
  • The host ended the room.
  • The Scene Share host ended the Stage or removed the backstage guest.
  • The host ended and recreated access, or used a product-specific key-rotation action.
  • It belongs to another vAudioLink product.
  • It was copied incompletely.
  • Its role does not match the attempted connection.
  • The relay or room encoded in the credential is no longer available.
A credential that worked earlier is not guaranteed to remain valid. This is intentional session isolation, not a permanent invitation system.

Host and guest separation

The host authorizes the dock with their vAudioLink account and creates the room. The guest credential does not expose the host’s account session and does not turn the guest into the account owner. The self-host flow generates its own room credential inside the OBS dock. Apply the same private-sharing and expiry precautions to that credential, and recreate the session if it is exposed.

What a Stage code does not grant

A Stage code lets an accountless Scene Share guest enter the waiting roster. It does not expose the host’s receiver URL and does not start Program capture or upload. The guest must review the Program choice, explicitly become Ready, and be selected by the host before the server returns a private sender grant. If the guest enables preview sharing, vAudioLink publishes one small silent still for the host; it is not a continuous preview stream.

If a credential is exposed

  1. End the current room or Stage. In Music Collab, Rotate guest key can replace the exposed guest key instead.
  2. Remove the exposed value from any editable post or message.
  3. Create a new credential.
  4. Send it through a private channel.
  5. Confirm only the intended collaborator reconnects.
